PAGADIAN CITY – A female village council member was arrested by the police after officers caught her during an illegal lottery operation in Tampilisan town in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines, officials said Thursday.
Officials said Melodina Hortel Paglalunan tried to escape, but was chased by policemen led by Senior Inspector Roldan Molate and arrested her.
The 30-year old village official also tried to hide tally sheets and betting papers from the policemen, who recovered them and would be used as evidence against Paglalunan.
Police said the woman is a council member of Farmington village. She is facing charges and could lose her membership at the council if convicted on charges of illegal gambling. (Mindanao Examiner)
