MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 20, 2013) – The Philippine Consulate General in New York in cooperation with the Philippine Center hosted a talk by Bakas Pilipinas on “Preserving the Architectural Heritage of the Philippines” at the Kalayaan Hall Annex of the Center, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Bakas Pilipinas is a US-based organization dedicated to ensuring the preservation of historic architecture and sites in the Philippines.

In welcoming the Bakas Pilipinas Team, Consul General Mario de Leon, Jr. noted that Filipinos often take Philippine architectural heritage for granted not realizing how they contribute to a better appreciation of the history and creativity as well as being a major pillar of tourism.

The Bakas Pilipinas Team composed of Filipino-American Architect and current Bakas Pilipinas President Roz Li and architects Jason Jean Jacquet, Angeline Quirona, and photographer Trix Rosen spoke on current preservation efforts in Manila and other regions of the Philippines.

Li likewise briefed the audience on the current status of the project to save the historic San Sebastian Basilica in Manila, the only all-steel churches in the Philippines.

The project of which Bakas Pilipinas is one of the project team members has received partial funding from the US Embassy in Manila.

Bakas Pilipinas is composed of architects, scholars, preservation experts, photographers, and historians all committed to helping preserve Philippine architectural landmarks for future generations.
