MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 2, 2013) – The Philippines said 5 Filipino fishermen who were rescued in Vietnam bare expected to arrive home soon.

Government officials said the engine of the fishermen’s boat broke down and the vessel drifted to Vietnam.

The fishermen, Willy Diaz, Isny Boy Diaz, Rodney Acosta, Richard Matiaong and Asadin Taha, are all residents of Balabac town in Palawan province. They were rescued on December 25 last year after being drifted at sea for more a week.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said three Vietnamese boats owned by Tran Kim Hoa, of Phu Yen Province, spotted the stranded Filipino fishermen and rescued them.

The Vietnamese fishermen arrived in Nha Trang City and handed over the five Filipinos to the Border Guard in Khanh Hoa Province.
