ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 29, 2013) – A nine-year old girl was killed after she was savaged by a dog in the southern Philippine port city of Zamboanga, police said Tuesday.
Police said the girl, Mariane Gonzalez, was attacked by a Doberman in the village of Pasonanca. Two of the dog’s handlers Arjay Selvestre and Joel Cañete were invited by the police for questioning, said PO3 Lorimar Larete, of the local police headquarters.
“They are liable for the death of the girl, including the owner of the animal, Geolar Tan,” he told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
Other reports said the animal which attacked the girl was a Belgian Shepherd.
The dog escaped from the animal’s den after its neck collar broke and attacked the girl who was just passing by, police said.
It was not immediately known whether the girl’s family would file criminal charges or not against the dog owner and its handlers. (Mindanao Examiner)
