A POLICE officer here was arrested for illegal discharge of firearm and threatening a construction worker Wednesday evening.
Major Michael Uyanguren, commander of Sta. Ana police station, identified the suspect as Staff Sergeant Paquito Barnuevo Diaz, 49, assigned at Foot Patrol Section of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).
Uyanguren said Angelito Vicente, 19, a construction worker, alleged that Diaz pointed his firearm on him and a minor companion when they were passing through the policeman and his colleagues who were drinking near their bunkhouse in Brgy. Bangoy here.
Vicente said Diaz left on a motorcycle after the incident, but then came back minutes after and pointed his gun again on them.
This time, however, Vicente said the police officer fired his gun on them, prompting him and his companion to run and hide.
Vicente then called Central 911 for police assistance. Minutes later, personnel from Sta. Ana police responded to the scene and confiscated a caliber .45 pistol from the police officer.
Diaz is now temporarily detained at the Sta. Ana police station while cases for violation of illegal discharge of firearm and grave threat are being prepared against him.(By Rhoda Grace Saron)
