PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 17, 2013) – Police arrested a radio announcer for illegally carrying an automatic pistol in Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines.

Roy Villar, who reportedly works as a disc jockey for dxFL-FM in Dipolog City, was apprehended at a police checkpoint on Tuesday.

Police said Villar failed to show any gun permits and is facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm. He also violated the six-month election gun ban which began January 13.

It was not immediately known why Villar was carrying a gun, but journalists and media workers are usual targets of hired killers because of what they report. More than 100 journalists had been killed the last two decades in the country. (Mindanao Examiner)
