MORE THAN 30 business establishments in Ozamiz City are facing closure for not paying the right taxes.
Representatives from the City Mayor’s Office, City Treasurer’s Office, City Engineer’s Office, Permit Division, Bureau of Fire Protection and PNP operatives monitored and issued Closure Orders to business establishments in Ozamiz City operating without business permits.
City Mayor, Fernando Sancho “Ando” Oaminal said, “My administration has always been firm in its thrust to make good of all our promises, particularly in delivering basic services.”
He said, despite service of the orders on closure for non-payment of business taxes, reports were made that there were those who defied.
“Hence, I instructed the law enforcers who were accompanying us at the time of inspection to apprehend all those who defy the closure orders,” he stressed.
“Let this serve as a warning to all those who have not secured the necessary permits in operating any kind of business as well as not pay the right taxes here in the city,” he said.
As a consequence, no less than five people who were continuously operating were arrested and brought to the police station for refusal or disobedience to persons in authority in accordance with Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code.
The closure will be temporary, and will be lifted only after the business owners comply with tax requirements and of the easement violations and other policies.(By Ma. Teresa Montemayor)
