ZAMBOANGA DEL Sur Provincial Governor Victor Yu ordered the local Police Provincial Office and the 53rd Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army to ensure a drug-free province.
“I want Zamboanga del Sur to be a drug free-province. The provincial government fully supports the anti-drug campaign of the PNP and AFP to realize its vision of becoming a peaceful and orderly society,” Yu said in a press conference.
The press conference was conducted as one of the highlights of the 25th National Crime Prevention Week on September 2-6.
Yu said the negative outcome from illegal drug use that young people may experience during their most productive years has contributed to societal burden. He added that the drugs are related to crime through the effects they have on user’s behavior and by generating violence and other illegal activity.
He said that sustained law enforcement operations will suppress the flow of illegal drugs supply.
The governor said the PNP and AFP submitted their programs to the provincial government and were already acted upon.
“We provided support on the repair of their vehicles and equipment’s, gasoline and crude oil for their patrol cars, and other funding for the operation of our PNP/AFP,” Yu said.
Yu concluded that crime prevention is a shared responsibility of police and the public, saying that it is everybody’s concern.(By Gideon C. Corgue)
