CEBU – Two of the country’s premier airports landed on the list of the 2019 Sleeping In Airport’s “Best Airports in Asia” and these are the Mactan Cebu International Airport which ranked 16th and Iloilo International Airport placed 18th, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
The list is based on the airport sleepers’ guide and resource website, sleepinginairports.net, which does the annual survey. In the survey, travellers were asked to rank their experiences on the following: Comfort, Services, Food Options, Immigration or Security, Customer Service, Ease of Transit, Cleanliness and “Sleepability.”
“We expect that more Philippine airports will be included (on the list) next year. The survey for the 2019 list was done until September. We have airports that were built just recently,” CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio told the Philippine News Agency.
He expressed optimism that the newly-built Bohol Panglao International Airport, and the airports in General Santos and Laguindingan in Misamis Oriental that are both undergoing rehabilitation, would join the 2020 best list. “We are very optimistic that these airports would make it into the list,” Apolonio said.
Singapore’s Changi Airport topped the 2019 list, in both the website’s top 10 best airports as well as its top 20 best airports in Asia. Other airports on the list include Seoul Incheon Airport, Tokyo Narita Airport, Osaka Kansai Airport, Taipei Taoyuan Airport, Hong Kong Airport, Kuala Lumpur Airport, New Delhi Airport, Jakarta Airport, Tokyo Haneda Airport, Mumbai Airport, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangalore Airport, Ho Chi Minh City Tan Son Nhat Airport, Hyderabad Airport, Da Nang Airport, Islamabad Airport, and Kunming Airport.
“Top airports have a lot in common: plenty of seating, rest areas, a good amount of food options, helpful staff and efficient check-in, and security procedures. Some airports go above-and-beyond with perks like in-terminal movie theatres and gardens,” according to the sleepinginairports.net website. (Maria Cristina Arayata)
