ZAMBOANGA CITY – Elite Filipino troops killed a notorious Abu Sayyaf bomb expert and ISIS liaison in a clash in the southern province of Sulu, security officials said Saturday.
Officials said soldiers recovered the body Talha Jumsah, alias “Abu Talha”, in the village of Tanum in Patikul town following fierce fighting on Friday.
Talha was listed in the military’s order of battle and was among the most wanted in Sulu because of his involvent in many terror attacks in the province. He was believed the ISIS conduit to the Abu Sayyaf and receiver of funds from the terror group.
Officials said Talha was also among those who harbored suicide bombers who carried out attacks on a Catholic church and military bases in the province since last year.
Security forces continue its offensive against the pro-ISIS Abu Sayyaf fighters in an effort to flush them out in the open as part of President Duterte’s order to the military to destroy the homegrown terrorist group. (Zamboanga Post)
