Cotabato City Mayor Atty. Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi during the recently concluded City Peace and Oder and Council (CPOC) meeting has reminded residents of the existing city ordinance on the prohibition of firecrackers here ahead of the December holiday season.
“I would like to remind everybody about our existing ordinance on the total prohibition of all fireworks and firecrackers. The prohibition not only includes the sale and distribution, but also the use of firecrackers,” she emphasized.
Mayor Guiani-Sayadi reiterated that even the mere transport and possession of firecrackers inside the territorial jurisdictions of Cotabato city is strictly prohibited.
City ordinance no. 2144, series of 2003 prohibits the manufacture, sale, distribution, possession or use of firecrackers, and such other similar devices and the exploding of firecrackers or other similar explosives within the territorial jurisdiction of Cotabato City.
Moreover, in line with the coming series of events next month, Mayor Guiani-Sayadi has urged everyone to cooperate and stay vigilant.
“I know that we can maintain the peace, safety, and security of our city as we mark these various celebrations and festivities. Let us not lower our guards because these lawless elements are just around and looking for a chance to do their evil things,” she stated.
On the other hand, in the face of the recent series of earthquakes in Mindanao, Mayor Guiani-Sayadi also reminded and called the attention of all barangay officials to secure the preparedness of their respective disaster response team.
“Let us all be prepared and ready to respond to any emergency whether it be flood, fire, manmade calamities or earthquakes,” she noted. (By PIA Cotabato City)
