ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police detained 3 men who were accused of illegal recruitment after authorities recovered in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines 30 people they allegedly recruited from the province.
Police identified the accused as Ryan Benson, Gaga Sahisa, who works as a crew member of M/L Rosmina, and Ronel Maquintora. “They are now under the custody of the while a case being readied for the filing appropriate charges in court,” said Insp. Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesman.
Those recruited said they were promised jobs in Sabah, but had been left behind by the ferry that would bring them to Tawi-Tawi province. Many of them were recruited in the neighboring Zamboanga Sibugay province.
They were discovered in the village of Cabatangan after neighbors contacted the police and told authorities about the “new faces” in the area.

“The victims were believed to be victims of human trafficking,” Samuddin said.
