ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 20, 2012) – The Philippine city of Zamboanga has finally put up a surveillance television system that would help local authorities monitor security and public safety.

Several dozens of closed-circuit television cameras have been installed in key areas in downtown Zamboanga, including on major roads and government buildings, and is expected to be fully operational soon.

The nerve center of the high-tech security system is located near the City Hall. At least four huge LCD monitors have been installed so operators can access various areas in the city where the cameras are installed.

The security cameras are all in waterproof dome casing to protect its sensitive electronic parts from rain and dirt.  It can take photographs and zoom up to 200 meters. The cameras are helpful in monitoring traffic or emergency situation and have been welcomed by residents and traders. (Mindanao Examiner. Cynthia Jimenez)
