ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 10, 2012) – A former Philippine Air Force soldier was stabbed and killed by a man whom he attacked with a motorcycle helmet in Zamboanga City in Mindanao.

Police said Erico Samagad stabbed Bayani Carpio with a knife after the ex-soldier punched and hit him on the head with the helmet in the village of Talisayan.

Samagad said he was drinking with the victim’s estranged wife at a local store when Carpio arrived and without provocation attacked him.

“He punched me in the body and then hit me on the head with the helmet and I pulled a knife and stabbed him in self-defense,” Samagad said.

Carpio, who had been separated with his wife for about a year now, was apparently jealous when he learned about Samagad and the woman drinking together in the village.

Police said Samagad, who surrendered after the killing, is facing homicide charges. (Angelie Cahulugan)
