DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 3, 2012) – Government troops clashed Monday with the New People’s Army rebels in the southern Philippines, but officials said there were no reports of casualties on both sides.
Officials said rebel attacked patrolling troops in Compostela Valley’s Monkayo town, sparking a fire fight in the village called Casoon.
Lt. Col. Cesar Molina, commander of the 25th Infantry Battalion, said the gun battle lasted over an hour.
He said soldiers recovered an improvised explosive left behind by rebels, who are still fighting for a separate state in the Philippines. (Mindanao Examiner)
