
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 11, 2012) – An unidentified gunman shot dead a Filipino poll official in an ambush Saturday in the troubled province of Basilan, police and military reports said.
It said Daryl Kinazo was killed near the village of Baluno in Isabela City and did not reach the hospital alive. No individual claimed responsibility for the murder and authorities were investigating the motive of the attack.
It was not immediately known whether the killing was connected to Kinazo’s job as poll officer in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan, one of five provinces under the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Isabela City Mayor Cherrylyn Akbar and the Commission on Elections did not give any statement about the killing. (Mindanao Examiner)
