MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / July 22, 2012) – Police mounted a search for four gunmen who shot a newspaper columnist and his sister during a burglary in the province of Laguna near the Philippine capital.
Police said the gunmen barged into the house of Allyxon Kua, 43, and shot the woman and her brother Nixon Kua, 49, who writes for the Philippine Star. The man was shot in the head and is now in critical condition in the hospital, police said.
Jerry Yap, president of the National Press Club, said Kua is a lifetime member.
Police said the gunmen took the woman’s bag containing a huge amount of money and fled. The attack occurred over the weekend and the police formed a team to track down the assailants.
It was not immediately known if robbery was the real motive of the attack, but authorities have put a P100,000 reward for any information that will lead to the capture of the gunmen. (Mindanao Examiner)
