THE CANADIAN woman who traveled to Syria and joined Kurdish forces to fight ISIS has allegedly been captured by the radicals, according to published reports.
The Jerusalem Post cited Islamist websites, with close ties to ISIS, in reporting the capture of 31-year-old Gill Rosenberg.
Those websites didn’t indicate exactly where Rosenberg was allegedly taken hostage, but fighting between ISIS and Kurds has centered around the Turkish-Syrian border town of Kobani.
A Kurdish military commander, who heads the unit to which Rosenberg was attached, told CBC News that those reports were not true and that the Canadian citizen had not been captured.
“It is a lie,” Zagros Cudi told CBC. “She’s OK.”
The White Rock, British Columbia, resident holds dual Israeli citizenship and is a veteran of the Israeli Defense Force.
The Canadian Foreign Ministry is aware of Rosenberg’s reported capture and a spokesman said, “Canada is pursuing all appropriate channels to seek further information and officials are in close contact with local authorities.” (By David K. Li – New York Post)
