Mindanao ‘blackout’ patuloy!

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 4, 2012) – Posibleng lumala ang blackout sa Mindanao taliwas sa pagmamalaki ng Malakanyang na unti-unti ng bumabalik sa normal ang sitwasyon ng kuryente sa katimugan.

Ito’y matapos na mapabalitang isasara ng isang buwan mula Abril 17 ang Pulangi hydroelectric power plant sa bayan ng Maramag sa Bukidnon province dahil sa maintenance nito.

Umaabot sa halos 300 megawatts ang naibibigay na kuryente ng Pulangi at malaking kawalan ito sa mga electric cooperatives sa Mindanao.

Sa pagsasara ng Pulangi ay tiyak apektado ang supply ng kuryente sa malaking bahagi ng rehiyon na kung saan ay may halos tatlong dosenang electric cooperatives ang nakikinabang dito.

Mula 6 oras hanggang walong oras o higit pa bawat araw nagtatagal ang blackout sa Mindanao.

Sinasamantala naman ito ng mga kumpanya na nagsusulong sa pagtatayo ng coal-fired power plants na mariing tinututulan ng mga environmentalists at ibat-ibang organisasyon dahil sa matinding polusyon na dulot nito. (Mindanao Examiner)
