DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 18, 2012) – Davao City held Sunday the “Bangkathon sa Davao Gulf 2012” as part of the celebration of the 75th Araw ng Dabaw, organizers said.

It said the event was aimed at gathering banca riders using fast-charged 16.5 and 7 horsepower engines. The contest drew active participation from fisher folks coming from Davao City, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental and as far as General Santos City, Surigao, Sarangani, among others.

Organized by One Radio 102.7 NewsFM, Ang Radyo ni Juan, SEACom Inc., and the City Government of Davao, the race also hopes to raise awareness in preserving the coastal and marine resources as well as protecting the welfare of the fisher folks in the region.

Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism-Region 11 said the town of Santa Cruz in Davao del Sur province will also hold the “2nd International Mount Apo Boulder Face Challenge” on April 28 and 29 and is expected to draw mountain climbers and tourists as well.

The event is also much awaited for this year in the province. (With a report from Ian Garcia)
