Barangay chairman itinumba sa Bukidnon

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 10, 2012) – Isang barangay chairman ang diumano’y pinatay ng mga di-kilalang salarin sa bayan ng San Fernando sa Bukidnon province.

Nakilala ang biktima na si Jimmy Liguyon, ang kapitan del barrio ng Barangay Dau, at ayon naman sa ulat ng Radyo Bombo ay itinumba ito dahil sa kanyang pagtutol sa mining acitivities sa naturang lugar.

Sinasabing isang dating miyembro ng New People’s Army ang tumira kay Liguyon.

Matagal ng may banta sa kanyang buhay si Liguyon at katunayan ay pinagbantaang na rin ito noon nakaraang taon ng mga armado na miyembro umano ng Triom Force, isang paramilitary group na nasa payroll ng mga financiers ng mining activities sa Dau.

Pilit umanong pinapipirmahan ng mga armado ang isang endorsement letter kay Liguyon bilang suporta nito sa mining activities sa kanyang lugar, ngunit tinanggihan naman ito ng opisyal.

Hinihinalang away sa pagitan ng mga small scale miners ang ugat ng pagpatay kay Liguyon, ngunit sinisipat rin ng mga awtoridad ang pag-ayaw ng biktima sa pagpasok ng large scale mining sa Dau. (Mindanao Examiner)
