PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 23, 2012) – Gunmen on Thursday killed 6 people after attacking a row of civilian houses in Lapuyan town in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga del Sur, officials said.

Officials said at least 10 gunmen, led by bandit leader Amie Andih, were involved in the attack that occurred at around 4.30 p.m. in the village of Tininghalang.

A still undetermined number of villagers were also wounded in the strafing, including children, mostly relatives of a government militia Dencio Tabayag, whose group had killed Andih’s brother Samang in a clash on February 11 in the town.

“The attack was connected to the killing of a lawless element, Samang Andih, by security forces in Lapuyan town. Samang was the brother of Amie whom led the attack in the village,” Army Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang, a spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command, told the Mindanao Examiner.

He said the attackers fled after the shooting. (Mindanao Examiner)
