4 people shot in Zamboanga City

Editor October 8, 2014
PNP-2B2-2Bcopy11

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Four people, including a policeman and a soldier, were wounded in separate gun attacks in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said Wednesday.

Officials said a motorcycle gunman shot in broad daylight Sgt. Christopher Mendoza, of the Army’s Engineering Battalion, in the village of Cabatangan on October 8. Mendoza was driving his motorcycle when the gunman attacked him.

Despite his wounds, the 37-year old soldier managed to fight back and shot, but did not hit his attacker who immediately escaped. Mendoza, who is assigned in Pagadian City, was rushed to hospital after being shot in the chin and left hand.

The motive of the attack is still unknown, but it occurred a day after a gunman also shot and wounded a local policeman SPO1 Alminder Mualip and also his wife Rosana and their son in the village of San Roque.

The trio was traveling on a motorcycle when they were attacked. The gunman fled after the shooting, leaving behind the three bloodied victims sprawled on the road. The three were brought to the hospital, but officials did not say anything about their condition.

Police said it is investigating the shootings, which is not uncommon in Zamboanga City where most of the gun attacks are carried out by hired killers who actively operate here with impunity. (Mindanao Examiner)
