ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of the Interior and Local Government in Western Mindanao called on the public to participate in the “synchronized” Barangay assembly on Sunday where it would discuss various topics and accomplishments of local village leaders.
Paisal Abutazil, the DILG regional director, said village leaders and their constituents can discuss issues within their barangay, especially on disaster and calamity preparedness and the effects of climate change to the environment and humans, among others, including peace and security concerns.
He also encouraged local chief executives to support the 23rd celebration of the Local Government Code Day on Friday.
Abutazil said this year’s theme, “Ang LGUng (sic) Magaling, May Nararating.”
“This year’s theme calls for all LGUs (local government units) to celebrate milestones and achievements arising from performance and excellence. Ang LGUng Magaling is recognition of each LGUs initiative to make a meaningful difference arising from the powers of local autonomy,” he said in a statement sent to the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
He said the creation of the Local Government Code of 1991 gives power to LGUs to become autonomous. “Now it has been given, then they have to celebrate it,” he said. (Mindanao Examiner)
