SULTAN KUDARAT – Two policemen were wounded in a roadside bombing by communist rebels near the town of Columbio in Sultan Kudarat province in southern Philippines, officials said Tuesday.
Officials said the policemen – PO1 Angelo Vilo and PO1 Richie Cabillo – were rushed to hospital due to shrapnel wounds from Monday’s attack by New People’s Army.
Superintendent Marvin Fontalva said the policemen were sent to the village to investigate a grenade blast near the command base of the 39th Infantry Battalion when the attack occurred.
Sultan Kudarat environmental officer Jerry Dalauta said the rebels were opposing government tree planting activities in the area. (Rose Muneza and Mark Jefferson Diaz)
