A Piper Seneca
MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 23, 2012) – Philippine authorities on Thursday announced the retrieval of the body of a Nepalese pilot off Masbate Island near the site of a deadly plane crash that killed a Philippine minister and his pilot last week.
Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said the body of Kshitiz Chand was retrieved, including the wreckage of the Piper Seneca plane.
The body of Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, 54, was among three people killed in the crash.
The twin-engine plane was piloted by Captain Jessup Bahinting and Chand when it went down while heading to Naga City from Cebu province in central Philippines.
Robredo’s body was retrieved on Tuesday and Bahinting’s remains also on Thursday.
Officials said the wreckage of the plane was located about 180 feet at the bottom of the sea, just 800 meters from the island.
Robredo’s police aide Chief Inspector June Paolo Abrazado survived the crash and said the pilots radioed the control tower to say that the plane was experiencing engine trouble barely 30 minutes after it took off from Cebu airport. (Mindanao Examiner)
