Anti-mining advocate sugatan sa atake sa Compostela Valley

DAVAO CITY – Sugatan ang isang anti-mining activist matapos itong pagbabarilin sa kanyang tindahan sa bayan ng Pantukan sa lalawigan ng Compostela Valley sa Mindanao.

Sinabi ni Hanimay Suazo, ng Karapatan human rights group, na agad tumakas ang salarin sa akalang napatay ang 60-anyos na si Teresita Navacilla. Naganap ang atake kamakalawa ng gabi sa Barangay Kingking.

Iniuugnay naman ni Suzao ang atake sa protesta ng grupo ni Navacilla sa pagpasok ng mga malalaking mining company sa sa kanyang bayan. Ibinintang ni Suazo sa 46th Infantry Battalion ang bigong pagpatay sa biktima at mga human rights defenders at leaders ng ibat-ibang mga progresibong grupo.

Nabatid na nagbabalak pumasok ang Nationwide Development Corporation at St. Augustine Gold and Copper Limited sa Pantukan at tinatayang aabot sa mahigit 1600 ektarya ang target ng mga ito.

Walang pahayag ang army ukol sa alegasyon ni Suazo, ngunit ilang beses na rin sinabi ng militar na may ugnayan ang Karapatan sa rebeldeng New People’s Army na itinanggi naman ng grupo. (Mindanao Examiner)
