
CEBU CITY – Cement company APO CEMEX turned over a P2-million school building to San Remigio town in Cebu province as part of its social commitment to the community.
San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez said the school project is a concrete manifestation of a strong public-private partnership.
Apo Cemex, formerly Apo Cement Corporation before it was acquired by Cemex in 1999, is located in the village of Tinaan in Naga City. It is among the largest cement producers in the country.
Company representatives said CEMEX Foundation’s support for education, environment, and livelihood primarily revolves around the objectives of promoting sustainability and welfare of the community.
Nino Ybanez, San Remigio Information Officer, said a simple ceremony for the handover of the school building was also held at the town’s Training Center which also coincided with the graduation of 30 local residents from the “EXPERTO AKO” Masonry Skills Training.
Ybanez said the graduates composed the first batch of the training participants that was purposely under the typhoon Yolanda assistance of Cemex.
But for the formal masonry course, Ybanez said that Cemex and the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority have yet to finalize the program with the local government employment officer under Antonio Villamor. (RMN, FCC)
