ARMM beach volleyball teams win honors in Vis-Min competition

Chief Editor June 11, 2015

COTABATO CITY – The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s ‘ARMM Warriors’ beach volleyball team emerged as champion in the recently held Visayas-Mindanao Open Invitational Beach Volleyball competition in Davao City.

It was the best among the 10 teams that participated in the competition under the men’s category. Another team from the region, the ‘ARMM Tawi-Tawi’, also earned a spot and landed as second-runner up.

Al-Trekee Dayan, Regional Sports Coordinating Office executive director, said the success of the team was associated with the extensive training the agency has conducted months before the actual competition.

The ARMM government, he said, also provided technical assistance, equipment, and facilities needed by the athletes. During the actual event, financial assistance from the regional government was also extended.

“The region is now making a mark in the beach volleyball competition. We are focusing on this event because we believe we have big chances of winning,” said Dayan.

Halim Khan, one of the players of ‘ARMM Warriors’ said members of the team are proud to represent the region in the competition. He also thanked the regional government for the support it has given. “This is not our success, this is the success of the entire ARMM,” he said.

The event was mounted in partnership with the Davao Volleyball Association and sanctioned by the Philippine Volleyball Federation. The three-day event was held from May 29 to 31at Times Beach in Davao City. (Bureau of Public Information)
