ARMM’s DPWH and DepEd have new secretaries

Chief Editor June 8, 2015

COTABATO CITY – The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has installed new officials in two of its major agencies. Engr. Don Loong was appointed as new Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-ARMM) secretary to replace Engr. Emil Sadain who was promoted to undersecretary at the DPWH central office.

Meanwhile Dr. John Magno took over Atty. Jamar Kulayan’s position as Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd-ARMM) after Kulayan’s formal resignation on 22 May 2015.

Executive Secretary Atty. Laisa Alamia clarified that the movement in the cabinet is not a revamp, but the result of career transfers. The newly appointed officials assured they will give their best in continuing the reforms of the previous secretaries and will contribute significantly to the preparation for a smooth transition to the Bangsamoro government.

“It is very difficult to surpass his (former secretary Engr. Emil Sadain’s) achievements. On my end, I will continue and sustain Gov. Mujiv Hataman and Sec. Sadain’s reform agenda,” he said.

“My goal is to maintain the fiscal discipline that (Sec. Sadain) had started. We will guarantee the correct disbursement of money and also implement procurement rules and quality standard applied in the national agency (DPWH),” he added.

Secretary Loong was assistant secretary of DPWH-ARMM under Engr. Sadain. Dr. John Magno, on the other hand, was assistant secretary for operation under Atty. Kulayan.

The new department secretaries vowed to continue the reforms that have been made by the Hataman administration. They asked the employees of their respective agencies for full support and cooperation. (Bureau of Public Information)
