ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 6, 2013) – Motorcycle gunmen on Friday shot and wounded an employee of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said.
Police said Maria Victoria C. Montaño, assistant to Ateneo president Fr Karel San Juan, was shot by gunmen who were tailing her in the village of Tetuan. Montaño was heading home when she was attacked.
The gunmen fled after the shooting. The motive of the attack is still unknown and police said Montaño is being closely guarded at the hospital where she was rushed shortly after the shooting.
No individual claimed responsibility for the shooting, but the news attack of the attack quickly spread among Ateneo students who condemned the violence.
There was no immediate statement from the Ateneo de Zamboanga University about the attack on its employee. Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga where hired killers are actively operating and largely blamed for the spate of shootings and string of murders here. (Mindanao Examiner)
