BASILAN – Three army soldiers were wounded in an ambush Thursday in Lamitan City in the restive southern Philippine province of Basilan, police said.
It said the soldiers were travelling on a motorcycle on their way to their camp when gunmen attacked them in the village of Campo Uno. The soldiers are members of the 74th Infantry Battalion, whose unit is fighting the pro-ISIS group called Abu Sayyaf.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the ambush.
The army did not release the identities of the injured soldiers. The attack occured despite an extended martial rule in the whole of southern Philippines because of terror threats. (The Zamboanga Post)
