ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 12, 2012) – Police authorities said a fisherman was killed when a homemade explosive he was carrying exploded on Monday off Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines.
Police said one fisherman was also wounded in the blast. The two men were engaged in illegal blast fishing when the explosion occurred off Sangali village.
Blast fishing is rampant in Zamboanga and many had died in premature explosions of homemade bombs, but these did not deter fishermen from engaging in the illegal activities. (Mindanao Examiner)
