ZAMBOANGA CITY – A fire fighter and a villager were injured in an explosion following a grass fire Sunday in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said.
Officials said the two men were trying to control the fire in Kasanyangan village when the blast occurred. The explosion injured FO1 Marlon Ignacio and Dandan Jalula, a member of a local crime watch group.
Mayor Beng Climaco has ordered an investigation into the blast and ruled out terrorism in the explosion which occurred at noon time.
“There is no cause for panic as the blast was not intentional, but had been triggered by something hidden or buried underneath the fire site,” she said. “As fire fighters were containing the blaze, a blast occurred resulting to the injury of FO1 Marlon Ignacio and Barangay Volunteer Crime Watch Dandan Jalula.”
Climaco said the local government will shoulder the medical expenses of the victims. (Mindanao Examiner)
