
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / June 21, 2013) – One fisherman died and five others rescued on Saturday after their boat capsized in bad weather off a coastal village of Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said.
Officials said the body of Efren Macaso was recovered off Limpapa village and his companions, four them all minors, have been saved by fellow fishermen.
Those who were rescued have been identified as Ismael Asmud, 53; Nikieoy Inglan, 13: Beejay Inglan, 14; Aris Jay Rodero, 11; and Narjie Hampac, 13.
Officials said the six were fishing when huge waves battered their small boat and causing it to capsize.
The rescue of the five fishermen came a day after a group of sailboats also capsized due to huge waves off Santa Cruz Islands. One fisherman, Sonny Hallim, 41, is still missing and feared dead after rescuers failed to find him.
Officials said 13 others had either been rescued or swam to safety. (Mindanao Examiner)
