MANILA – A passenger boat has sunk late Saturday off Southern Leyte in central Philippines, reports said.
It said the boat, MV Maharlika II, was sailing to Liloan town from Surigao province when it sank. The Coast Guard has launched a search and rescue operation in the area.
The roll-on, roll-off boat was carrying over 100 people.
It was not immediately known why the boat sank and the Coast Guard has not released any statement about the cause of the mishap. Other reports said some of the passengers had been rescued.
In 2010, the Maharlika II also collided with MV Ocean King I near the Port of Liloan. (Mindanao Examiner)
