MANILA – The body of the soldier who died in a clash with Abu Sayyaf rebels arrived Wednesday in Manila on a military cargo plane from Zamboanga City in southern Philippines.

Troops in Zamboanga City led by Brigadier General Orlando De Leon, deputy chief of the Western Mindanao Command, and Brigadier General Anselmo Junsay III, commander of the 530th Air Base Wing, also honored Corporal Glenn John Barcelona before transporting his cadaver here.

Barcelona was killed on November 22 in Sulu’s Parang town. His unit also killed Sihata Asmad, an Abu Sayyaf sub-leader.

Authorities blamed the Abu Sayyaf for the spate of ransom kidnappings and terrorism in the restive South. (Mindanao Examiner)
