FORMER SPECIAL Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go assured the people of Laguna that the province would have its fair share development projects of the government even as he vowed to serve as their link to President Rodrigo Duterte.
Go, a senatorial candidate for the 2019 election, made the statement when he graced the Seminar- Lecture on Community Mobilization Project Orientation held recently at Calamba City in Laguna. It is a program intended to enhance the competencies of local government operations officers in the performance of their jobs.
Among those who welcomed Go was Laguna Gov. Ramil Hernandez, Cong. Joaquin Chipeco Jr., mayors of the municipalities and cities in the province, police officials, and other local officials. “Itong Laguna ay malapit po sa aming puso ni Pangulong Duterte,” said Go in an interview. “Rest assured yung mga infrastructure ninyo rito magiging part ng Build Build Build (program ng gobyerno) at magkakaroon tayo ng mga infrastructure nang mabawasan ang trapiko lalo na po papunta dito sa Laguna dahil kapitbahay lang po ito ng Manila,” he added.
Among others, Go cited the P124.1 billion PNR South Commuter Line project, consisting of 72 kilometers of electrified, double-track rail system from Manila to Los Baños, meant to provide faster and traffic-free transportation between Manila and Laguna. The detailed Engineering Design for the project is expected to be completed this month.
He also noted the PNR South Long-Haul project that would connect Manila to Bicol, passing Los Baños in Laguna along the way; and cut travel time from Manila to Legazpi City to only five hours; the Phase 1 of the Metro Manila Subway Project for a 25.3 kilometer underground rail that would serve as the North-South rail backbone for the National Capital Region, Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna, among others.
In addition, he pointed out the Cavite-Laguna Expressway, a four-lane, closed-system toll expressway connecting CAVITEX from Kawit and SLEX at the Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna. It is expected to reduce traffic congestion particularly in Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, and Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road. The construction of the Laguna segment already reached 21.694% accomplishment.
Speaking before the participants to the event, Go also said he welcomes the move to make Calamba a lone congressional district as part of the effort for the development of the entire province. Likewise, Go urged the local officials to continue their support for President Duterte’s campaign against illegal drugs. “Tulungan natin si Pangulong Duterte na tapusin ang laban kontra droga,” Go said. “Isa ang layunin namin ni Pangulo. Wala kaming ibang interes kundi magserbisyo sa Pilipino.”
Go vowed to continue his support for the programs of President Duterte and part of his legislative agenda is the fight against illegal drugs, crime, and corruption. Explaining his vision for the country, Go said that among others he would push for a Magna Carta for barangay officials, including the extension of their term; the conduct of localized peace talks to avoid further bloodshed, a review of the Juvenile Justice Law to prevent the youth from being exploited by criminals.
In addition, Go said that as part of his health agenda he would push for a law for the creation of a Malasakit Center in every province and urban center of the country as well as more funding to improve the bed capacity of public hospitals to improve the delivery of health services.
A Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop bringing together in one room all concerned government agencies such as the DOH, DSWD, PAGCOR, PSCO, and Philhealth to make it faster and easier for poor and disadvantaged patients to seek medical and financial assistance from the government.
According to Go, a Malasakit Center will soon rise in Laguna Medical Center to cater to the medical needs of the people in the province. This will be the second in the region, next to the recently launched Malasakit Center in Batangas a few days ago.
Other priorities in Go’s legislative agenda include education, housing for the poor, agriculture, fire protection and prevention, long-term sports development, the creation of a Department of OFW and improved benefits for senior citizens. (Jun Ledesma)
