Boy who hiccupped through national anthem becomes internet sensation – ABC News

Desk Editor November 23, 2015

The pint-sized Adelaide singer who hiccupped his way through the national anthem before a sporting event has become an international media star.

Ethan Hall’s rendition of Advance Australia Fair went viral on social media after his appearance before Adelaide Bite’s baseball game on Saturday.

The seven-year-old, who says he is “puffed out” from the interviews, is taking the day off school and may appear on UK TV later today.

As of this morning he had done about 10 interviews.

He told 891 ABC Adelaide his favourite song was Under the Sea.

Ethan’s mother Kylie said her son had experienced hiccups about 24 hours before his performance but on the car ride to the game they disappeared.

“They’d actually gone during the drive and he thought it was fantastic … he was about to say they have gone mum and we said don’t say anything, we didn’t want him to jinx it,” Ms Hall said.

But moments before taking the microphone the pesky hiccups returned and he needed some encouraging words from his parents.

“Ethan you have got to do the best you can and we are so proud of what he did,” she said.

“Our initial response was ‘oh no this is just the worst timing’, you know, he is a great little singer.

“The last thing we wanted to do was spoil his singing, I’m hoping all the people who have seen the YouTube clip can see past the hiccups and see he is a great little singer as well.”(891 ABC Adelaide)
