CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 11, 2013) – Gunmen shot and wounded a town mayor early Saturday in the southern Philippines, reports said.
It said the vehicle of Mayor Joelito Jacosalem Talaid, of Bukidnon’s Kadingilan town, was flagged down by gunmen at a checkpoint in the village of Kibogtok. But it was unclear why gunmen shot the politician or whether he had put up a fight.
Other reports said two of the mayor’s bodyguards were killed by the gunmen, who also carted some P7 million from Talaid’s vehicle.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the shootings, but communist rebels are actively operating in the province and had previously warned politicians against campaigning in so-called guerrilla zones. (Mindanao Examiner)
