KIDAPAWAN CITY – Police have disarmed an improvised explosive planted in a bus travelling to Koronadal City in South Cotabato province in southern Philippines, reports said on Saturday.
It said a passenger had alerted the driver after discovering the bomb – wrapped in a newspaper and plastic sheet – at the rear of the bus on Friday. The bus, owned by Yellow Bus Line, came from Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat province, but it was unclear where it originated and who planted the bomb.
The bus driver and his conductor immediately informed the police about the explosive and ordered passengers to disembark so authorities can retrieve the bomb and disarmed it.
No other details were made available by authorities on the construction of the improvised explosive or what group was behind the foiled bombing.
Previous bus bombings in the troubled region were largely blamed to separatist rebels and extortionists. Authorities have repeatedly told bus operators to enforce strict security and inspect baggage of passengers, and put up security cameras in terminals and inside the bus. (Mindanao Examiner)
