Cabanatuan radio man killed

Editor December 20, 2012
ALAM1

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 20, 2012) – A Filipino broadcaster was killed on Thursday in a continuing attack on journalists in the Philippines, the party list group Alab ng Mamahayag said.

It said the gunman shot Julius Cauzo, who worked for the radio station dwJJ in Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija province.

Journalist Jerry Yap, who is also the ALAM chairman, condemned the latest killing and expressed grave concern over the safety of media members and the worsening situation of press freedom in the country.

He said Cauzo was rushed to the Good Samaritan Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Cauzo was shot several times in the chest.

Police said it is still investigating the motive of the killing. Yap said the attack could be connected to Cauzo’s work.

“Cauzo is the 5th news anchor killed in 2012 and is the 14th journalist slain under the leadership of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III,” he said. (Mindanao Examiner. With a report from Nanet Villafana)
