MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / May 26, 2014) – In an effort to further strengthen and intensify the government’s campaign against women and child abuse and related programs, the national police recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Children’s Fund and Child Protection Network Foundation Inc.

Police Director General Alan Purisima led the signing of the memorandum with UNICEF representative Patrick Halton and CPNFI Executive Director Dr. Bernadette Madrid.

They also agreed to improve the module on the Specialized Course for WCPD Officers to enhance the investigative capability of police Officers handling women and children cases – abuse, neglect, discrimination, and exploitation -in the country.

“Duties and responsibilities were also elaborated in the MOU which emphasized the updating of the existing 10-day Standard Training Package on the Specialized Course on the Investigation of Crimes Involving Women and Children for PNP-WCPD Officers to update its content on new laws on women and children, Child Protection in Emergency and Gender-Based Violence in Emergency and protecting the rights of the vulnerable including Persons With Disabilities,” the police said.

The police would also coordinate all its units from the headquarters and field offices to work together to contribute to the development of the updated Program of Instruction and the Standard Training Package. It will also ensure that the Standard Training Package will be used in all training to be conducted nationwide.

Police data on abuses on women and children in the country were not readily available.
