CEBU CITY – Here is good news for policemen and anti-narcotics agents in Cebu City. Mayor Edgardo Labella said policemen assigned here will soon get their monthly cash assistance, saying, he is very impressed with the over-all peace and order situation in Cebu City under the leadership of Colonel Giovanie Maines.
He said the local government is set to release the allowances of the policemen – P8,000 for the chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), P6,000 for the assistant chief, and P2,500 for each police officer.
Raymund Alvin Garcia, the City Council’s chair of the committee on budget, said that aside from the policemen, the local government will also provide monthly cash incentives to members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) assigned here.
He said the PDEA agents will get their January to June cash incentives, while the policemen will receive their allowances from June to October this year.
The city government, Garcia also said, is also providing the CCPO with 40 new rifles and 20 patrol motorcycles.
Labella said Cebu City is now “drug lord-free” after the killing of notorious drug lords, among Jeffrey Diaz and Franz Sabalones who were slain in the National Capital Region.
“Insofar as peace and order is concerned, insofar as Cebu City is concerned, I am impressed with our fight against criminality, fight against illegal drugs. But I am happy to announce that insofar as Cebu City is concerned, we are confident that we are a relatively peaceful city,” he said.
Labella also reported that Cebu City is also free from the presence of communist rebels, although there were unconfirmed reports that some rebels come here occasionally to “rest.” Policemen and PDEA praised Labella and the City Council for their support. (John Rey Saavedra)
