CEBU – Some 200 farmers in Toledo City benefited from the so-called Shared Service Facilities Project or SSF of the Aquino government for Mag-uumang Naghiusa sa Sam-ang ug Magdugo or MANAGSAMA.
MANAGSAMA has over 200 farmer members in the two villages in Toledo and are involved in the production of coconut products. The farmers’ group received almost half a million pesos in government assistance to increase its competitiveness, according to the Department of Trade and Industry.
DTI spokeswoman Shirelyn Villamor said the farmers have already received equipment such as desiccated dryer, de-shelling machine, coconut meat grinding machine, briquetting machine and five carbonizing drums.
She said the MANAGSAMA farmers also underwent a series of training on food processing, desiccated coconut production, management and market matching.
“The SSF is a response to the market demand of fair trade and local market for virgin coconut oil, desiccated coconut and charcoal briquettes,” Villamor said.
The SSF Project is being implemented nationwide with project partners termed as co-operators, which may be any juridical entity such as but not limited to nongovernmental organizations, people’s organizations, cooperatives, industry or trade or business associations, local government units, state universities or colleges, technical vocational schools and other similar government and training institutions.
Beneficiaries of the project are the actual and potential users of the SSF which should be predominantly cooperatives, associations or groups of Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises and individuals. (Ferliza Contratista)
