Cebu media get a break

CEBU – Local media personalities spent a night of fun and music at Cebu Capitol’s first Media Night dubbed as “Songhits sa Capitol”.

“In delivering vital information to the general public, mass media is undeniably among our strongest partners,” said Cebu Provincial Information Officer Ethel Natera. “Through the special night specially organized for them, we thank and acknowledge media’s help in reaching out to Cebuanos who can avail of our various development programs.”

Aside from media, Capitol’s department heads, Provincial Board members and Governor Junjun Davide with First Lady Mrs. Jobelle Davide were also present.

Capitol-beat reporters grooved to the tune of Survivor by Destiny’s Child showcasing Cebuano’s resilience after three disasters that hit the province in a year.

The Night’s highlight was “Songhits sa Capitol” game wherein contestants were to guess the missing word and phrase from the lyrics of the song being played.

Victor Silva of Cebu Daily News won as champion and took home P1,000 and overnight stay for two with breakfast at Radisson Blu Hotel. Taking the second spot, Ryan Sorote of TV 5 received P1,000 and overnight stay for two with breakfast at Marriot Hotel. Another P1,000 with dinner buffet for two at Harold’s Hotel was awarded to third placer Alex Badayos of SunStar Cebu.

A first-time Capitol-beat reporter, Silva admitted enjoying the unexpectedly fun event. “I was overwhelmed because we (media) were so pampered. This became a de-stressor after a whole week of haggard coverage”, he said.

Silva also received a special award as the earliest guest to arrive. Another special award was given to Michael Vencynth Braga of The Freeman and Angelica Fay Saniel of DYAB 1512 as Best Dressed.

Media Night guests witnessed Capitol’s homegrown talents’ performance from the Capitol Choir, Live Band and Dance Troupe. The Night is a part of the month-long celebration of Cebu Province’s 445th founding anniversary. (Lianne Llesol)
