ZAMBOANGA CITY – A young woman, who is believed suffering from a mental illness, had escaped from her home – still in chains – and wandered through a village in the southern Philippine town of Patikul where she had been found.
The still unidentified woman was recovered near a military base and had been taken to hospital.
Authorities have appealed to the public to help identify the woman or her family. The woman could hardly speak and it was unknown how she ended in the village.
It was unknown how she managed to escape, but her family could be held liable under the penal law for chaining the woman. Social workers were attending to the woman. (Mindanao Examiner)
