MANILA – Philippine authorities arrested a Chinese national and a Filipino marine officer in a raid Thursday on a hideout in Manila where illegal drugs are being kept.
Police identified the foreigner as Yan Yi Shou, alias Randy, and Lieutenant Colonel Ferdinand Marcelino. Some P320 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or locally known as shabu or ice were also seized from the makeshift laboratory in Santa Cruz, it said.
The raiders – all agents of the Anti-Illegal Detection Group of the Philippine National police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – were armed with warrants when they swooped down on the hideout and arrested the duo.
“The operation was conducted by virtue of search warrant issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court which said that the house serves as a storage facility of illegal drugs,” police said in a statement.
It said some 64 kilos of shabu were confiscated from the house that served as storage for the illegal drugs. Assorted chemicals and laboratory equipment believed used in the manufacture of the drugs were also seized by the raiders, including a car.
Police said the two men – who previously worked with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – are facing criminal charges. They are currently being interrogated by the police. (Mindanao Examiner)
