cident unfolding in Sydney: Truck crash, carjacking and stabbing – News.com.au

Desk Editor January 4, 2019

A MAJOR police operation is underway in multiple locations across Sydney after a truck crashed, a taxi driver was carjacked, at least one person was stabbed and another appears to have been killed.

A New South Wales Ambulance spokesperson said the driver of the Woolworths truck involved in the collision at Rockdale produced a knife and started fighting another man.

News.com.au understands the man stole the delivery truck in Bankstown before going on a crime spree in which he collided with up to five cars in Wiley Park. The alleged offender then car-jacked a red taxi in Rockdale and fled the scene, according to witnesses.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman told news.com.au a man aged in his 20s was stabbed. The alleged victim has been taken to St George Hospital in a serious condition. News.com.au understands emergency services were called to the scene on West Botany Road in Rockdale about 3.10pm today.

A related incident is reportedly unfolding on Forest Road near St Francis Xavier’s Catholic Primary School in nearby Arncliffe.

Images of a body covered in a white sheet on a road in the suburb have started to appear on social media but authorities have not yet confirmed any deaths.

Police and ambulance services have multiple crews on scene and there are reports of helicopters in the area. News.com.au understands the body is that of the alleged offender who reportedly turned the weapon on himself.

A NSW Police spokesman told news.com.au that police were responding to a major incident in southwest Sydney but could not yet provide any further information.

An Australian Federal Police spokesman refused to answer questions in relation to reports members were at the scene. (Megan Palin and Shannon Molloy)
