Clan war kills 10 in Southern Philippines

Chief Editor April 22, 2015

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Tension is high in the town of Lumbaca Unayan in Lanao del Sur province following the killings of at least 10 people in what authorities claimed was an offshoot of a clan war between two warring Muslim groups.

Security forces have put up more road blocks and checkpoints and additional patrol to prevent the violence from further spreading to other areas in the province.

The violence erupted after gunmen shot dead Luminog Raado, the patriarch of a well-known family, and wounded his wife in an attack over the weekend.

At least 9 other people were killed and over a dozen wounded when a group of armed men, believed to be relatives of Raado, opened fire on a truck they thought were carrying relatives of the protagonists in the village of Lumbac Dilausan.

Authorities have made no arrests so far, but have tightened security in the town to prevent fighting by followers and relatives from both sides. Lanao is one of five provinces under the restive Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. (Mindanao Examiner)
